I am an ed tech enthusiast!
After 10 wonderful years of being an ed tech coach, working in classrooms with teachers and students, I faced the reality of a district with changing priorities. As the Learning Technologies Department was reduced to a mere shadow of its former self, I looked elsewhere and pursued a tech admin job at the district level.
I found one, but it quickly morphed into something that was all about inventory and software licenses. I had no contact with teachers or students for a whole year! Aargh! I started working to remedy this (looking for the right district, the right philosophy, the right role) and came upon the most wonderful opportunity…
Beginning in August 2008, I will be working once again with middle school students and teachers (cartwheels optional here!) in a position cleverly titled “Engaged Learning Specialist” . You can read more about that here, but suffice it to say that I am “back in my element” — integrating technology, consulting with teachers and grade level teams, doing a little teaching in the computer lab, etc.
In the meantime, this blog is a place for me to reflect on emerging technologies and how they can and should impact our teaching. As I continue to experiment, try new things, play around, I’ll stop in here to reflect, ask questions, and share my stumblings.
This is a place for me to share findings, as well — from my Professional Learning Network with of a hundred or so ed tech leaders all over the world — with local educators whom I have worked shoulder-to-shoulder with in classrooms, on tech plans, and in presentations at conferences.
Finally, this is a space for me to grow. The dialog with readers and commenters is sure to provide opportunities for me to look at some things in a new way, consider other perspectives, and decide to investigate other topics further. Join me!
